Dancing With the Stars (ABC, 8 ET/PT) returns tonight, as a new celebrity crowd competes for TV's ugliest trophy.

I've never been a fan, but at least this year's politician-and-reality-sludge-free cast is better than most. And if nothing else, it's not The Bachelor.

•Moms rule tonight, starting on Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9 ET/PT), where Alan and Lyndsey decide to introduce their mothers to each other.

Alan's mom, of course, is played by the great Holland Taylor. The happy guest news is that Lyndsey's mom is played by the equally wonderful Georgia Engel.

•Then it's on to Smash (NBC, 10 ET/PT) for another great maternal guest: Tony-winning Broadway legend Bernadette Peters. She plays Ivy's mom who, as it turns out, is a Broadway star herself.

•Engel, by the way, is not the only Mary Tyler Moore star to return to CBS tonight. Hawaii Five-0 (CBS, 10 ET/PT) has Ed Asner, who reprises his 1975 role from the original Hawaii as smuggler August March. Look for footage from the first show to be worked into the new one.
