I knew it was love at first sight. The quaint, college-adjacent, high-end supermarket harboring a sophisticated bottle shop, that also happened to be cover for a bistro, that also happened to have cooks playing Rocket from the Crypt audibly through the eating area. Yes.
We came to see Sierra Nevada's largest tap takeover in Southern California: 29 taps were S.N. the previous day, and a hearty 23 were still on. Our server was a guy we recognized from Churchill's Renaissance celebration the day before, which is relevant because it means they have savvy beer people on hand for service.
We ordered from the barbecue, where Sierra Nevada infused dishes were being cooked up, so I can't rate those dishes as part of KnB's (short for Keg 'n Bottle) eats. The breakfast nachos however...
Sliced potato, lightly fried, a fried egg, chorizo sprinkled around, and some cheese. It's that low-brow food with quality ingredients that's everywhere, but it's done because it's awesome. And when you're right across the 8 from SDSU, it behooves you to serve a hearty Hangover Helper dish like this.
We sat and hung out for a while, had several of the Sierra Nevada offerings, and stared at their bottle selection, which, if you ask nicely, includes Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Sink the Bismarck. Most likely, those will be at hefty markup, but it's good to know they've got 'em.
Oh, I didn't mention that total taps here = 32. That's really impressive for how small a bistro they run.
Looking at the other food options, I'm excited to go back. It's like a nice beer bar that you wouldn't mind taking your mom to on Mother's Day (Sunday mimosas! They happen here!) (I know you're reading this, mom). For that matter, it's a good place to bring a date. Eat some food, drink some drink, and grab some vino for the road and make it a Blockbuster night before that company goes bankrupt.
