It's young, it's hip(stery), it's in Golden Hill. All of these things tend to turn me away and push me straight down the street into the loving arms of Hamilton's. But Whistle Stop has its place for a good stiff drink and a humble, but solid tap selection.
The bar is cozy and well-lit, unlike the gothic opacity of Hamilton's just north, and has smoking space on the patio, so you can have your glass in hand while bumming a cig (I don't do this, but I recognize the appeal for those that do... this is the service I try to provide, people!).
A good place to come and grab a drink with some friends and to meet attractive new people in decent lighting.
