For a while, I couldn't figure out why there was something noticeably Anglicized about Taco Patron's food. Not in a Taco Bell way, still delicious and all, but enough to raise an eyebrow.
I then recently found out that this place is owned by the very popular Cotija's chain of taco shops. This may have something to do with that, but it's still a high leg up on the MXN chain, nee Santana's.
For instance, the Burrito el Patron is a fantastic take on a typical carne asada burrito, loaded with gooey (Anglicized?) melted cheese and big old Anaheim chiles. Albeit with too many beans for my taste (which is to say, there ARE ANY beans in my carne asada burrito), it's still an awesome flavor, especially from those big fresh chiles.
The carnitas are also made fresh everyday, falling apart and drenched in a deep red salsa, if you know how to ask for it right (read: I forgot how to tell you to ask for it right). Bomb though.
My biggest complaint is the horrible hours: closed on Sundays and open everyday from 7a- 7p. C'mon now. You know when people want a burrito? Midnight. 3 a.m. Or at the very least 9 p.m. This is a non-possibility though, at least for the time being. Maybe this review will get through to the right people though and it'll make things happen, eh? Let's go, internet. You can do this. You've GOT this. Get me my late night burritos.
